What are SUDS?
SUDS, or Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems are a sequence of water management practices and facilities designed to drain surface water in a manner that will provide a more sustainable approach than what has been the conventional practice of routing run-off through a pipe to a watercourse
Conventional and expensive methods of temporary water storage and stormwater management such as oversized pipes and underground tanks require the use of heavy duty construction plant and are restricted by their shape and size.
The importance of stormwater management is coming more to the fore in the planning and design of all building projects worldwide. The reasons being significant increases in water run-off rates and the legislative requirements for Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) to control stormwater.
The benefits include:
- Reducing flood risk
- Minimising diffuse pollution
- Maintaining or restoring natural flow regimes
- Improving water resources
- Enhancing amenity
The GEOdek™ and AquaCrate range of stormwater management products offers a simple, rapid and cost effective method for installation of underground water storage and stormwater attenuation. The range offers stormwater management solutions for attenuation, soakaways or rainwater harvesting. Boxes comprise modules which fit together in such a way that almost any shape can be accommodated. These light weight easy to install boxes come in a range of load tolerances making them suitable for pedestrian areas right the way through to heavy load bearing roadways.
